The Jesus Abbey School 예수원학교에 대해..

Last month, we mentioned starting the Jesus Abbey School. I would like to share just a bit more about that so that you can pray with better knowledge. As the Lord has turned our focus more towards preparing young people as the Unification Generation, our long-held dream of starting a school for the children of Jesus Abbey and others has risen in importance to now become our top priority. As we prepare for the opening of North Korea, we are thinking more in generational terms. It is one thing for the doors to open but it is something very different to bring about true unification; that is unity of hearts, of culture, of a people as compared to simply political and economic unification. We are seeing more and more how important it is to prepare the youth of today for the tomorrow when they will be the ones in direct communication with their North Korean brothers and sisters. This young generation will be the one that brings about real unification... or fails to.

지난달 보내드린 기도달력에서, 예수원학교를 시작하려는 것에 대해서 말씀드렸었습니다. 예수원학교 설립과 관련해서 더 알려드리고 싶고, 그래서 여러분께서 기도해 주실 때에 더 많은 정보를 갖고 구체적으로 기도해 주실 수 있도록 하고 싶습니다. 주님께서는 우리로 하여금 통일세대로서 그 시대를 살아가게 될 젊은이들을 양성하고 준비하는 것에 더욱 관심을 갖고 집중할 수 있도록 해주셨습니다. 예수원 아이들을 비롯한 몇몇 청소년들을 대상으로 시작하게 될 학교에 대한 꿈과 그 의미는 더욱 중요하게 부각되어졌고, 현재로서는 학교설립과 젊은이들의 양성이 우리의 우선순위 1번이 되었습니다. 북한개방의 때를 준비하면서, ‘세대’에 대해서 더욱 깊이 생각하게 되었습니다. 북한이 개방되는 것과 참된 통일, 연합, 하나됨이 이뤄지는 것은 매우 다른 것이라고 여겨집니다. 참된 연합이란, 단순히 정치적 경제적 결합만이라기 보다는 마음과 문화와 인간적 교류의 하나됨이라고 생각합니다. 이런 모든 것들을 보고, 생각할수록 더욱 절실히 그리고 크게 깨닫게 되는 것은, 현재의 젊은 세대들이 북한의 형제자매들과 직접 대화를 나누고 교제하며 지내게 될 그 때를 위하여 준비되는 것이 필요하고, 바르게 준비되어 질 수 있도록 하는 것이 얼마나 중요한가 하는 것입니다. 이렇게 준비 되어진 젊은 세대만이 바로 참된 통일과 연합을 이뤄내게 될 것입니다. 만약 이렇게 준비되어지지 않는다면 남과 북의 참된 연합을 일궈내는 것은 어려울 것입니다.



We will be reaching out to these young people through the Three Seas Youth Training Center. We already do reach out to them through our summer youth labor schools and youth retreats. We will continue to do this and work to do it on a greater scale, but more is needed. The Jesus Abbey School will be a middle and high school located permanently at the Three Seas. Its mission will be to prepare leaders for a unified Korea. It will have a focus on excellence in education from a Biblical world view. It will also include a special focus on North Korea and unification. As a permanent residential school, it will provide an ongoing community around which all our other efforts will be built. It will provide the core for the Three Seas Center, the anchor, if you will.

삼수령 청소년 수련원(Three Seas Youth Training Center)을 통해서 우리는 젊은 세대들에게 다가가고자합니다. 우리는 이미, 지난 3년간 진행되었던 여름 청소년 노동학교와 몇차례 청소년들이 이곳에서 쉼을 취할 수 있도록 장소를 제공하는 등의 방법으로 청소년들과 만남을 가져왔고 교류해오고 있습니다. 이런 일들을 계속해서 진행시켜 나갈 것이지만, 한편 그 이상의 무엇인가가 필요하고 느낍니다. 예수원학교(Jesus Abbey School)는 삼수령에 위치한 중고등학교입니다. 학교의 설립목표는 통일한국의 때에 필요한 리더들이 준비되어질 수 있도록 하는 것입니다. 성격적 가치관에 근거해서 최고의 교육을 제공하는 것에 중점을 두고 있습니다. 또한 특별히 북한과 통일에 대해서 진지하게 생각할 수 있는 기회를 충분히 갖도록 할 것입니다. 예수원학교가 일시적인 학교가 아니고 상설학교라는 점은 지속적인 커뮤니티과 동창들의 네트워크 형성이 가능하다라는 것을 의미하며, 우리의 모든 노력을 다해 커뮤니티를 세우고 유지시켜갈 것입니다. 이 커뮤니티는 삼수령센터의 핵심이 될 것이고 닻이 될 것입니다.



We plan to begin classes by offering grades 1 and 2 (grades 7 and 8 in the American system) on March 1 2010 on a non-residential basis for the children of Jesus Abbey and from the city of Taebaek. We hope to add a grade each year until we have a complete middle and high school. When we have progressed to offering high school, we will begin taking boarding students.

2010년 3월 1일, 예수원과 태백시에 거주하고 있는 중학교 1,2학년(미국의 경우, 7,8학년) 학생들을 대상으로 개교할 예정입니다.(개교시에는 기숙학교의 형태로 운영되지 않습니다.) 중학교 3개 학년과 고등학교 3개 학년을 모두 갖출 때까지, 매년 학년을 늘려갈 계획입니다. 고등학교를 시작하게 될 즈음에는, 기숙 학생들도 모집할 계획입니다.



The school has already begun in the sense that we are now working to build the community of experts and interested people from whom we will draw our first teachers and students. We have access to temporary space for the first three years beginning March 1st of this year. We will spend this year preparing our teachers and school families to understand the special benefits of this type of education and how to provide it while also working to prepare the space for our use.

현재, 학교설립을 위한 전문가 집단을 형성하고 있고, 학교에 관심을 갖고 있는 선생님들, 그리고 학생들과의 관계를 맺어가고 있다는 측면에서 보면, 이미 예수원학교는 시작된 것과 마찬가지입니다. 또한 학교교육시설로 처음 3년간 임시로 사용하게 될 장소도 올해 3월 1일부터 계약이 시작됩니다. 내년에 학교가 시작되기에 앞서, 올 한해는 학교를 섬겨주실 교직원들이 예수원학교의 교육체계의 특수사항들을 충분히 이해하고, 나아가 학생들에게 예수원학교만의 그 특수한 장점들을 어떻게 제공할 지에 대해 고민하고, 준비하는 기간으로 지내게 될 것입니다. 또한 동시에 학교공간을 교육목적에 맞게 꾸미고 준비할 것입니다.
