Dear Friends, 사랑하는 친구 된 형제자매님들께,
The Jesus Abbey School 예수원학교
Towards the end of February, we had the first of a series of monthly workshops planned for this year as part of the process of preparing to open the Jesus Abbey School for classes one year from this month. Almost 30 people came for the three day workshop at Jesus Abbey. They included people interested in being teachers, some who are thinking about helping us raise the necessary funds, parents, those with particular interest in educating from a Biblical world view, intercessors and others. This was a very encouraging start for us in this process.
지난 2월 말경, 예수원학교 개교 준비 작업 과정 중의 하나로 매월 진행하게 될 예수원학교 워크숍의 첫 모임을 가졌습니다. 3일간 예수원에서 개최된 이번 워크숍에는 대략 30명의 형제, 자매님들이 참석하였습니다. 참석자들은 참 다양하였는데, 가르치는 일에 관심이 있으신 분들, 기금마련에 도움을 주시고자 하시는 분들, 자녀를 입학시키고자 하시는 분들, 성경적 세계관으로 교육하는 일에 관심이 있으신 분들, 중보로 동참하시길 원하시는 분들 등이 그 자리에 함께 하셨었습니다. 이 일을 시작하는 단계에 있는 저희에게는, 이러한 모든 분들의 다양한 참여와 관심이 큰 힘과 격려가 되었습니다.
We toured the local village (Hasami) school facilities that have just been vacated. We looked at work that needed to be done on them and how we might use them for the first two years of our school. From there, we all came to the Three Seas Ranch and looked at the sites where our new school buildings will appear over the next few years. Everything is grass and trees now but we all saw with the eyes of faith confident God is guiding us on His plan and that that includes these new buildings. In our temporary space at the village school, we can take only a few local; students and cannot expand beyond middle school. We will start there but when we are able to move into the new buildings at the Ranch we will be able to expand to high school and take students from othe! r areas as well since we will then have residential facilities.
워크숍 기간 중 참석자들은, 현재는 얼마 전 폐교가 된 지역마을 학교인 하사미분교를 방문하여, 시설 등을 둘러보았습니다. 2년간 이곳 건물을 사용하기 위해, 어떠한 보완, 보수작업이 필요한지, 또한 이 시설들을 어떻게 활용해야 할지에 대해서 살펴보고 생각해보았습니다. 그곳을 둘러본 후, 그곳에서 출발하여, 참석자 모두는 삼수령 목장으로 돌아와서 몇 년 후 삼수령 목장위에 세워지게 될 학교의 새 건물 위치를 확인하고 보았습니다. 지금 현재 눈에 보이는 것은 풀과 나무가 전부였지만, 우리는 하나님께서 하나님의 계획대로 우리를 인도하고 계신다는 믿음의 눈으로 그 장소를 바라보았고, 하나님의 계획안에 있는 새 학교 건물을 볼 수 있었습니다. 임대해서 사용하게 될 마을학교에서는, 몇몇 지역학생들만을 입학시킬 수 있습니다. 또한 고등학교 과정은 진행하기가 어렵게 됩니다. 그렇습니다. 우리의 시작은 그곳에서 그렇게 진행되어집니다. 하지만,! 목장 내에 새 학교 건물을 짓게 되고, 새 건물로 학교를 옮겨오게 되면, 고등학교 과정도 시작할 수 있고, 기숙시설도 마련이 되므로 다른 지역의 학생들에게도 입학을 허용할 수 있게 됩니다.
Along with looking at these locations, we learned about God's imperative for education and what it means to educate from a Biblical foundation and a Christian worldview as well as what it means to be preparing the "Unification Generation." At first most people did not understand the direct connection between starting the Jesus Abbey school and the Fourth River Project work preparing for the opening of North Korea but as we had a lively discussion and each person shared their thoughts we found ourselves going back and forth between the value of this sort of education and the need to prepare for the opening of North Korea. Everyone understood our vision of raising up young people to be the nation's future leaders and the ones who will have special rolls to play in the process of br! inging peace, reconciliation and true unity to this divided nation.
이 두 학교 건물의 위치를 살펴보면서 통일세대를 준비하는 것뿐만 아니라 성경적 기초에 근거하여, 성경적 세계관으로 교육하는 것이 얼마나 중요한가에 대해 새롭게 깨닫게 되었고, 그것 또한 하나님의 명령이라는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 처음에는 대부분의 사람들이 예수원학교를 시작하는 것과 북학개방의 때를 준비하는 네번째강계획과의 연관성을 알지 못했습니다. 하지만, 서로 생각과 의견을 활발히 교환하고 나누는 과정 중에, 예수원학교가 실시하고자 하는 교육이 추구하는 바와 북한 개방의 때를 준비하는 것의 필요성의 상관관계에 대해서 여러모로 검토하게 되었습니다. 우리의 비전이 이 나라의 지도자가 되고, 또한 남과 북으로 분단된 대한민국에 평화와 화해와 진정한 의미의 통일이 있도록 하는데, 중요한 역할을 감당할 젊은이들을 키워내고 준비시키는 것임은 여러분 모두가 아마 알고 계실 것입니다.
We ended on quite a note of excitement and expectation. It will be difficult for busy people to continue coming to these workshops every month but we are confident that God will see to it that those whom He is calling to be our future teachers and staff will be able to and that we will all draw closer in forming the special community that will be the Jesus Abbey School.
흥분과 기대 속에 일정을 마쳤습니다. 매월 개최될 워크숍에 여러모로 바쁜 형제자매님들께서 지속적으로 참석하여 주시는 것은 어려울 것이라 생각됩니다. 하지만, 하나님께서는 예수원학교의 선생님이 되실 분들과 스텝이 되실 분들을 부르셔서 인도하실 것이고, 특별한 공동체인 예수원학교를 함께 이루어가도록 인도하실 것이라고 확신합니다.

The Capital Campaign 기금모음운동
In order to build the permanent home for the Jesus Abbey School, we are preparing a new capital campaign. Those of you who have been our faithful prayer supporters through the year are well aware of our efforts to raise funds to build the Three Seas Training Center. We have not been very successful so far and have not yet been able to begin construction. But, God is faithful. He has been using this time to teach us and lead us to where He wants us to be. Our new focus on the school is part of this process. We are not forgetting the training center. It is actually now coming under the cover of the Jesus Abbey School. Our construction plans are actually little changed, we are just shifting around some priorities as the Holy Spirit has guide! d, and preparing a new way to find the partners whom God is touching to help support this work. We are working on new brochures, a development video and a new website. We are planning on these projects all being completed by the end of March. Starting in April, I will be looking for opportunities to speak to churches, businesses and other organizations about the Jesus Abbey School and our work of preparing for the opening of North Korea focusing on our need for facilities seeking partners.
예수원학교의 건물을 세우기 위해서, 새로이 기금모음운동을 하고자 합니다. 지금까지 우리를 위해서 신실하게 기도록 동역해주셨던 분들께서는 삼수령센터를 짓기 위한 기금을 모으기 위해서 우리가 얼마나 많은 노력을 해왔는지 잘 아실 것입니다. 지금까지는 사실 그렇게 성공적으로 기금이 조성되었다고 할 수는 없고, 그래서 아직 건축을 시작할 수 없는 상황입니다. 하지만, 하나님은 신실하십니다. 이 시기를 통해서 우리로 하여금 많은 것을 깨닫게 하셨고, 하나님께서는 우리가 있기를 원하시는 곳으로 하나님의 뜻대로 우리를 인도하여 주셨습니다. 학교에 대해서 새롭게 집중하게 된 것이 이러한 인도하심 중의 하나라 할 수 있습니다. 훈련센터(트레이닝 센터)에 대한 것을 포기할 수가 없습니다. 실제로 그것은 예수원학교와 관련이 깊습니다. 시공 계획에는 약간의 변화가 생겼습니다. 오직 성령께서 인도하시는 대로 몇몇 우선순위들을 조정하고 있습니다! . 또한 하나님께서 이 일을 지원하고자 하는 마음 주신 분들을 알게 되는 새로운 방법을 모색 중입니다. 새로운 브로슈어, 홍보영상, 웹사이트를 제작중입니다. 3월말 경까지 완성되어지도록 할 계획입니다. 4월의 시작과 함께, 교회와 기업과 다른 여러 기관들에게 예수원학교와 북한개방의 때를 준비하는 우리의 노력에 대해서 소개하고자 합니다. 우리에게 어떤 시설이 왜 필요한지에 대해서 중점을 두어서 말씀을 드릴 것입니다.

Summer Program 여름일정
Many of you are wondering about our summer program. We continue to hear from people who want to come and participate in a labor school or our youth program. We are thinking carefully about what we are to do this summer to meet the growing awareness of the importance of these schools along with our capital campaign and the work of preparing the Jesus Abbey School. I expect that by the end of March, we will have our plans for the summer worked out and will let you know. Thank you for your prayers on this, too.
많은 분들께서 삼수령의 여름 프로그램에 대해서 궁금해 하시고, 저희에게 계속적으로 일반인과 청소년을 대상으로 한 노동학교 참가신청에 대해 문의해 주시고 계십니다. 현재 저희는 점점 더 노동학교의 중요성에 대해 인식하시고 관심 가져 주시는 많은 분들의 기대와 바램을 충족시켜 드리기 위해서 올 여름에 대한 계획을 심각하게 고려중에 있습니다. 섣불리 결정을 내릴 수 없는 것은, 기금모음 운동과 예수원학교 준비 작업을 동시에 진행시켜야 하기 때문입니다. 바라기는 3월 말까지 여름프로그램에 대한 계획이 확정되어서 여러분께 알려드릴 수 있으면 좋겠습니다. 이일을 위해서도 계속 기도해 주심 감사하겠습니다.
